Marder Dermatology offers painless Radiation Therapy with little to no side effects to those patients who do not want any surgery or disfiguring scars on their face, hands, ears nose, or any part of the body.

Advantages of Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy detects and destroys any pre-cancerous, cancerous or other abnormal cells that have formed in and around the lesion, many of which would have gone undetected with normal surgical excision.

Fortunately, with the technology available today, radiation treatments leave most normal tissue unharmed, providing painless, cosmetically-pleasing results.

Patients can not see, smell, taste, hear or feel radiation treatment.

Your daily radiation routine

Once Dr. Marder is done creating your unique treatment plan, your daily radiation routine will begin. Most of Dr. Marder’s radiation therapy patients come to the Marder Dermatology and Skin Cancer Center for treatment everyday. Monday through Friday. Each lesion will be radiated accordingly to each treatment protocol daily. All of our patients continue to do all of their usual activities including walking, work, golf, and/or hobbies during their radiation treatment. Most importantly no downtime occurs.

In general, the most common side effect from radiation treatment is minimal skin irritation, which is an excellent sign that the treatments are working and treating any Field of Cancerization not seen by the naked eye. Treatments are offered at both of our locations, Port St. Lucie and Okeechobee, FL for our patients’ convenience.

Our patients come to us daily from 7 different counties. We serve St. Lucie, Okeechobee, Martin, Indian River, Palm Beach, Hendry and Glades counties counties for a total population base of over 400,000 people.

Planning for your unique radiation treatment

Once you have decided to undergo radiation therapy, the planning for your specific treatment begins. Radiation therapy kills cancer by damaging DNA, causing cells to die at cell division. After the radiation kills the cancer, your body takes over and naturally eliminates the cancerous cells.

Many Patients have no side effects from radiation treatment.

Many patients have no side effects at all, but some patients do have mild side effects associated with the treatment area. Side effects vary from patient to patient and will depend mostly on the dose, the part of the body that is treated, and the patient’s general health before treatment.

The most common side effects are itching and mild skin redness in the treatment area. The beauty of Board Certified Dermatologists is that, Dr. Marder and his associates have training to minimize all redness and itching and Dr. Marder is always available if you need him.

Radiation therapy can cause hair loss (alopecia), but only in the area being treated. For example, if the patient receives treatment to the spine, the patient will not lose hair on their head. However, radiation to the patient’s head may cause the patient to lose some hair on their scalp. Most patients find that their hair grows back after the treatments are finished.

The most difficult aspect of radiation treatment is simply that it does require approximately 40 treatments in total which means treatment lasts anywhere from 4 to 5 weeks depending on the severity of the problem. Patients are encouraged to talk to Dr. Marder and obtain the specific details of their daily routine.

Marder Dermatology professionals will care for you during treatment.

During your daily routine, you will be cared for by many professionals in addition to Dr. Marder.
